International Anti-Corruption Conference:
Towards a Fairer World: Why is corruption Still Blocking the Way

Guatemala City and Antigua, Guatemala - November 15 - 18th 2006

Organized by Transparency International, the conference aimed to raise awareness about corruption. The idea was to stimulate the global exchange of experience and methodologies in controlling corruption, and to foster international cooperation among agencies and citizens from all parts of the world.

Governance and Corruption: Myths and Realities.

Corruption has a direct impact on a country's competitiveness and is one of the main constraints affecting economic performance across Latin America. Chile, on the other hand, has had remarkable success combating corruption and has a thriving economy to show for its efforts. Daniel Kaufmann, Director of the World Bank Institute's Global Programs, discussed this topic, as well as the World Bank's governance and anti-corruption efforts in Latin America and the other five regions in which the World Bank Group operates.

Open and Participatory Government in Latin America

September 4 -November 17th 2006


This program aimed to disseminate best practices in anti-corruption and good governance at the municipal level and to provide a structured
platform for municipal officials and citizens to learn specific anti-corruption strategies. These strategies can be adapted and applied to their municipalities. The program provided local government officials with tools and mechanisms to devise, design and implement anti-corruption programs in their own institutions and to contribute to the reshaping of a good governance environment. It was developed through an online distance-learning course.
